Growco is a member driven organisation of growers,
specialising in conventional cucumbers & tomatoes.
The organisation consists of 6 members.
Anchor Nurseries began in 1958 when the nursery on Thearne Lane in Woodmansey, East Yorkshire was bought by Edward Baarda. In February 1959, it received its certificate of incorporation. Anchor Nurseries mainly grew Lettuce, Tomatoes, & Cucumbers in the early years.
In 1966, JP Colbridge moved to its current location. This was a one acre wooden greenhouse growing tomatoes, lettuce and cucumbers.
JG Evison was originally a mixed arable and dairy farm. The current proprietor, Ashley Evison is the fourth generation to own and work the farm. Ashley's father, John George Evison, began to diversify into producing a wide range of salads and vegetables becoming a market gardener.
Glen Avon Growers is a family run business. The land in Cottingham was originally purchased by the current growers’ grandfather, who was a fruit and vegetable exporter in Holland.
Tony Faranda, owner of Raventhorpe Nursery Ltd, grew up on a farm in Sicily and first came to England in 1968 when he started working on his uncle’s nursery and began to learn about the growing industry.
Red Roofs Nursery is a successful family business based in Cottingham which began in 1961 and employs local people to produce a British product.
