Glen Avon (JPC site)
In 1966, Glen Avon moved to its current location. This was a one acre wooden greenhouse growing tomatoes, lettuce and cucumbers.
The nursery has since then progressively changed to 5 acres of Venlo greenhouse, mono cropping tomatoes. The nursery has always been aware of the need for energy conservation and has installed thermal screens.
The company supplies almost 80% of its product to a major leading supermarket with the remaining being supplied to wholesale markets.
The company is a small family run business, with 10 full time staff and 12 part time workers. They are always keen to learn new skills and work enthusiastically, embracing new technology.
During the summer the tomatoes are brought directly out of the glass house(s) and grading then takes place in the large pack house.
